1 Spiritual and Historical Attractions in Dong Trieu
Dong Trieu was the ancestral homeland of the Tran Dynasty before it moved to Long Hung and Thien Truong. This is also why the area boasts one of the most dense and distinctive Tran Dynasty relic complexes in the country. If you love history or wish for a journey with cultural depth, these are the unmissable destinations.

1.1 Tran Dynasty Historical Relic Complex
I spent the entire morning walking through the Tran Dynasty relic site spanning nearly 20km2 and still felt it wasn't enough. The complex comprises 9 shrines and 3 main pagodas, among which An Sinh Temple, worshipping 8 Tran Dynasty kings, serves as the centerpiece of the entire site.
The atmosphere here is not grand in a newly built sense, but retains the secluded tranquility and solemnity of a place that has existed since the 13th century. This is a Special National Relic site. Every brick and every stone stele tells its own story of an illustrious dynasty.

1.2 Ngoa Van Hermitage - Pagoda
Ngoa Van Pagoda in Dong Trieu is a place that truly impressed me, even though I had read quite a lot about it before visiting. Located on Bao Dai Mountain at an elevation of 588m to 644m, this is where King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong practiced asceticism and attained nirvana, revered as the Holy Land of Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen Buddhism.
The complex consists of 4 zones with 15 pagoda and stupa clusters; the pilgrimage path winding from An Sinh Temple along the stream up the mountain takes about 2 hours. In addition, a cable car system has been built for visitors wishing to conserve their energy.

1.3 Ho Thien Pagoda
Ho Thien Pagoda is situated on Tru Phong Mountain in the Yen Tu range, at an altitude of 500m to 800m, and is where the Tran Emperor once chose to mount the platform to give Buddhist lectures. I climbed up in the morning when the mist was still thick; the landscape was so quiet that I could only hear my own footsteps.
Most unique is the 7-storey stone stupa on the mountain slope behind the pagoda, whose architecture remains a mystery to researchers to this day. Ho Thien is not as crowded as Ngoa Van, and that very tranquility was what I loved most about it.

1.4 Quynh Lam Pagoda
Quynh Lam Pagoda is one of the three main pagodas in the Tran Dynasty relic complex, situated on Tien Du Mountain, Dong Trieu, with a history dating back to the early 13th century. The ancient stone stupa garden on the temple grounds was where I stayed longest to take photos and read the inscriptions on the steles. Although renovated several times, the pagoda still retains the ancient aura of a major Buddhist center of the Tran era.

2 Ecological and Entertainment Attractions in Dong Trieu
Not only rich in history, Dong Trieu also offers natural spaces that surprise many visitors. From crystal-clear lakes to vast orange orchards or countryside villages preserving their rustic rhythm of life, these are ideal destinations for anyone seeking genuine relaxation after a tiring work week.
2.1 Khe Che Lake
Khe Che Lake is about 10km from the center of Dong Trieu ward. The calm surface reflects the deep green forests on both sides, birdsong echoes from the pine hills, and the air is cool and fragrant with wild plants. Upon arrival, my friends and I rented swan paddle boats to ride around the lake. In the afternoon, we sat on the grassy banks enjoying a BBQ party together.

2.2 Yen Duc Rural Eco-Cultural Village
Yen Duc was an experience beyond my imagination before visiting. This eco-village authentically recreates traditional northern rural life, from rice paddies, fish ponds, and buffalo pens to mossy tile-roofed ancestral houses.
You can directly participate in catching fish, pounding rice, and grinding grains, and then savor piping-hot ragworm omelets and gat gu cake right in the garden. If traveling with children, this is a place where both parents and kids will find something they enjoy.

2.3 Dong Trieu Orange Orchards
The 85-hectare Dong Trieu orange orchard is an unexpected check-in gem. I had the chance to visit during the ripe orange season in November, when endless rows of trees were laden with golden-orange fruit under the autumn sun.
Admission to the orchard is completely free; you only pay if you buy oranges to take home, priced at around 45,000 VND per kg. The morning light in the orchard is magnificent for photos. I recommend wearing orange or yellow tones to make your pictures pop.

2.4 Quang Ninh Gate Tourism Area
Quang Ninh Gate is the most modern entertainment destination in Dong Trieu, ideal for families with young children or groups of friends seeking an energetic day out. The highlight here is the 3D art museum featuring dozens of creative settings for photos. The area also offers numerous outdoor games, dining spaces, and stalls selling Quang Ninh specialties. After a long trip, this is an ideal spot to "wind down" before heading home.

3.2 Best Time to Visit
Dong Trieu is at its most beautiful in autumn and early winter, from September to December. Orange orchards turn ripe golden in November, while purple rose myrtle flowers bloom across the hills of Khe Che Lake from March to April. You should avoid major holidays if you want to dodge crowds at spiritual relic sites.
3.3 Dong Trieu Specialties to Try
Ragworm omelet (cha ruoi) tops the list of local delicacies. Gat gu cake (nodding rice cake), made of thick and soft steamed rice rolls, is enjoyed with sweet and sour dipping sauce. In addition, there are upland sticky rice, grilled hill chicken, and seafood dishes if you combine your itinerary with visits to coastal areas.
