2 The Magnificent Beauty of Sung Sot Cave
Situated in the central area of the Ha Long Bay World Heritage Site, Sung Sot Cave ranks among the most magnificent and spacious caves in Ha Long Bay. With a total area of over 10,000 square meters, it is likened to an Opera House amidst the sea, housing thousands of uniquely shaped stalactites and stalagmites found nowhere else.
One of the distinctive features of Sung Sot Cave is its striking contrast. As soon as you step past the narrow cave entrance, you enter an immense cavern filled with myriads of sparkling stalactites. This stark contrast leaves travelers spellbound, far exceeding all expectations. Simply squeezing through a small rock fissure feels like stepping right into a mysterious, breathtaking wonderland.
At an elevation of approximately 25 meters above sea level, the cave consists of two main chambers, each possessing its own splendid and captivating charm. The first chamber is roughly 30 meters high, serving as an antechamber before leading into the second. Visitors follow a narrow stone walkway illuminated by low lamp posts that act as both trail markers and decorative lighting.

The cave is split into two chambers that form vast auditoriums. Both sides of the walkway are decorated with illuminated light poles, accentuating the wondrous beauty of this landmark. The second chamber opens up into a completely different vista: an immense cavern capable of accommodating thousands of visitors at once.
Venture deeper inside, and uniquely formed rock shapes resembling Saint Giong, a sword, stone statues of elephants, seals, and more gradually emerge along the walkway, evoking pure delight. Beyond its natural allure, Sung Sot Cave also enchants visitors with mystical legends and stories suspended between dreams and reality.
Legend has it that after triumphing over the An invaders and brilliantly completing his noble mission, Saint Giong rode the clouds back to heaven, leaving behind his sword and cherished steed for the villagers to provide peace and banish demons and evil spirits. This site also preserves remnants of that ancient battle, with small ponds and pools around the cave resembling the footprints left by the mythical horse.

Continuing along the trail inside the cave toward the exit, visitors will be even more amazed to discover a picturesque "Royal Garden." From the clear, tranquil pond and poetic subterranean scenery to the lush green plants, vibrant life fills the entire space. At times, the calls of monkey troops coming down to forage for fruits resonate, enlivening the vast surroundings.
The majestic landscape of Sung Sot Cave is one of the reasons the people of Ha Long Bay can proudly affirm that this region is renowned not only for its grand natural seascape and skies, but also for harboring mystical, wondrous caves bestowed by nature. Without question, this is a destination you cannot miss when visiting Ha Long Bay.
