1 Where is Cap Tien Temple?

Cap Tien Temple is located in Dong Xa commune, Van Don district, Quang Ninh province, near Bai Tu Long Bay and part of the Cua Ong Temple relic complex. When I arrived, the temple impressed me with its 'back against the mountain, facing the water' position, with the majestic Tien Mountain behind and the dreamy blue sea in front, creating a sacred and tranquil space.

Today, Cap Tien Temple is a familiar stop for tourists who love spiritual tourism in Quang Ninh, especially during the early spring. The ancient space, picturesque scenery, and sacred stories make it one of the most famous temples in the Northeast region.

2 History and spiritual significance of the temple

When researching Cap Tien Temple, I learned that it is also known as Co Be Cua Suot Temple. It is believed to have been built during the Tran Dynasty, associated with the legend of the daughter of Hung Nhuong Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tang.

According to folklore, after her death, people built a temple to commemorate her merits. During the Nguyen Dynasty, the temple also worshipped a mandarin who contributed to the people's welfare and repaired the temple.

Regarding spiritual significance, I feel that Cap Tien Temple is a place where people and tourists come to offer incense, pray for peace, luck, wealth, and safe sea voyages.

3 Guide to getting to Cap Tien Temple

I have been to Cap Tien Temple many times, so I want to suggest the most convenient way to get there. The temple is located in Van Don, Quang Ninh, about 2 km from Cua Ong Temple and about 8 km from Cai Rong center.

If traveling from Hanoi, you can drive along the Hanoi - Hai Phong - Ha Long - Van Don expressway, a distance of about 209-220 km, taking about 3 hours by car.

For those who enjoy experiences, riding a motorbike is also an interesting choice because the coastal road in Quang Ninh is quite beautiful. From Ha Long, you travel about 50-60 km more to reach the Van Don area. When approaching Cua Ong Temple, continue to the beginning of Van Don II Bridge, turn right about 400 m to reach Cap Tien Temple.

4 Activities not to be missed when visiting Cap Tien Temple

4.1 Explore the architectural works at the temple

In terms of architecture, the main temple has an area of about 102 m², built in the Dinh-shaped architectural style, including a worship hall and a rear sanctuary. This is a common architectural style in traditional worship buildings in the North.

In addition to the main temple, the relic complex also includes Son Trang Cave and Tien Well. These items create a fairly harmonious visiting space, with both spiritual elements and natural landscapes for you to enjoy and take photos.

What I like about Cap Tien Temple is that the space is not too grandiose but has a sense of antiquity and peace. Thanks to its back against the mountain and front facing the bay, the temple has a beauty close to nature and is very suitable for visiting during a spiritual tour in Van Don.

4.2 Offer incense to pray for peace

When visiting Cap Tien Temple, I usually offer incense at the main temple to pray for peace, health, luck, and wealth. This is the most important activity when I visit the temple, especially during the early spring. Cap Tien Temple is part of the Cua Ong Temple relic complex and was recognized as a special national historical relic in 2017.

4.3 Visit Tien Well

Tien Well is a place I find very worth visiting within the temple grounds. The special thing is that the well is near the sea, but the water is still sweet, sourced from the mountain. During the early spring, many people come here to draw water, wash their faces, or bring water home with the hope of good luck. According to records on February 3, 2025, i.e., the 6th day of Tet, hundreds of cars brought tourists to the temple to worship and get water from Tien Well.

4.4 Participate in the spring festival

If you go at the beginning of the year, I recommend choosing the 6th day of the first lunar month because it is the annual opening day of Cap Tien Temple festival. The ceremony includes rituals such as offering incense, reporting, and praying for peace. Praying for national prosperity, favorable weather, and calm seas. The festival atmosphere usually lasts throughout the spring, from about the first to the third lunar month.

4.5 Enjoy the scenery and take photos

After offering incense, I usually spend time strolling around the temple. The temple is located at the foot of Tien Mountain, along Bai Tu Long Bay, with a position of 'head resting on the mountain, feet stepping on the water', so the scenery is quite peaceful. The main temple area is described by some tourism sources as having an area of about 102 m², including a worship hall and a rear sanctuary. In addition, there are attractions such as the main temple, Son Trang Cave, and Tien Well.

- Maintain order in the temple area: When visiting, you should speak softly, not push, and not litter.

- Wear comfortable shoes: The temple area has outdoor attractions, so you should choose comfortable shoes for easy movement.

- Combine nearby itinerary: After visiting the temple, you can combine a visit to Cua Ong Temple or other spots around Van Don to make the trip more complete.
