Truc Bai Son Lake is located in Hai Ha District, Quang Ninh Province. The lake is beautiful in all four seasons, but autumn is the most romantic. The lake’s open and tranquil setting will help you feel every stroke of the oars.
Truc Bai Son Lake – Quang Ninh’s romantic “lake in the mountains”
Truc Bai Son Lake covers an area of 110ha, and its water is formed by streams flowing from the Quang Moi, Tai Chi and Lo Ma Cooc hamlets and villages.

A waterworks project was built at the lake in 1988, and the lake was officially put into use in 1991. It is a flood-regulation project serving irrigation for agricultural land in the communes of Quang Son, Quang Phong, Quang Chinh, Quang Long, Quang Dien, Quang Thinh and Quang Trung in Hai Ha District.

Truc Bai Son Lake is about 15km from the district center. To get here, visitors travel along National Highway 18A toward Mong Cai, then turn left at the Quang Long Commune junction and continue for about 11km to reach the lake.

Although it is not yet as popular or famous as other destinations, many people still come to the lake for weekend outings. The lake is home to abundant shrimp, fish and freshwater aquatic life, and many local residents have made a living fishing here for many years.

The lake reveals a distinctive beauty in each season, but perhaps, as in many other places, autumn is the most beautiful. On foggy days, visitors paddle a dugout canoe across the lake; the water is crystal clear, while Mount Duc, standing about 1,000m high, rises in the distance.

On sunny days, Truc Bai Son Lake becomes a perfect natural painting. Numerous isolated small islands are dotted with trees whose leaves turn yellow, interspersed with trees that remain green year-round.

Viewed from above, the lake is surrounded by large and small mountain ranges, most of them undulating primary forests rich in rare medicinal plants. Seasonal wildflowers in a multitude of colors spread down toward the lake, alongside cinnamon and acacia plantations cultivated by local villagers.

The lake’s clear blue, tranquil waters make a strong impression on many visitors. In the late afternoon, sunlight streams through the mountain passes, illuminating images of Dao people enthusiastically clearing the forest and harvesting cinnamon around the mountain ranges surrounding the lake. Visitors can take a motorboat or row to explore the lake’s natural beauty in the mountains, or go fishing and enjoy grilled food right on the lakeshore.

When visiting Truc Bai Son Lake, visitors can also stop by Tai Chi Village, home to Doi Waterfall, a majestic symbol of love. Doi Waterfall was created by nature amid the primary forests.

As many as 90% of the people in Quang Son Commune are Dao. Local residents still preserve many aspects of their ethnic culture, and most women are skilled at embroidering traditional clothing.
