1 Binh Lieu and Border Routes: The Journey to Touch Landmark 1327
Binh Lieu is not for those seeking pampering. This is a land of wind, winding border patrol roads, and mist-shrouded mountain peaks. People liken this place to a highland maiden just waking up from a long slumber. I arrived in Binh Lieu on a clear day with a very clear goal: to conquer the "heavenly landmarks," including Landmark 1327.
This mountainous district in eastern Quang Ninh Province lies just over 100 kilometers from Ha Long. It is dubbed the miniature Sapa of the Northeast. But to me, Binh Lieu possesses its own unique character—the rugged charm of a frontier realm with nearly 50km of border shared with China. It is home to sacred boundary markers, each telling a story of national sovereignty and courage.

2 When Is Binh Lieu Most Beautiful?
I believe you can visit Binh Lieu year-round. Each season adorns this land with a brand-new coat. In spring, Binh Lieu is vibrant with festivals. You can join the Luc Na Communal House Festival or listen to sweet Soong Co love duets. If you travel at the end of March, tung blossoms blanket the forests in pure white. Summer and autumn bring refreshing waterfalls and lush green terraced rice fields.
Winter is the season of camellia oleifera flowers, which is also when locals begin their harvest. No matter the season, the ultimate destination—Landmark 1327—is always waiting for eager explorers. I love the golden harvest season the most, when from atop the high landmarks, you can gaze down at dazzling golden valleys spread beneath your feet.

3 Exploring Landmark 1327 and Other Boundary Markers
3.1 Landmark 1327 and the Route Toward Dong Van Market
Among the boundary markers here, Landmark 1327 offers a distinctly different experience. To get here, I chose to depart from Hoanh Mo Border Gate. An easy tip for first-timers is to ask the border guards at the gate for directions; they are exceptionally helpful and friendly.
After passing the border post for a short distance, I turned right. The road leading straight toward Dong Van Market stretches about 20km. This is a road of sweeping curves. Strong winds whistle through the pine canopies, filling the air with the invigorating fragrance of pine resin. Standing before Landmark 1327, I could truly feel the profound stillness of the frontier.

Conquering Landmark 1327 does not demand as much physical stamina as Landmark 1305, yet it boasts majestic vistas of rolling mountain ridges. To the north lie Fangcheng District and Nanning in Guangxi Province. The boundary is merely a stone pillar, yet the feeling is deeply sacred. Standing by Landmark 1327, I felt so small before nature, yet an overwhelming sense of national pride welled up inside me.

3.2 Sibling Landmarks 1300 and 1302 Along the Patrol Trail
Before reaching Landmark 1327, I stopped by Landmarks 1300 and 1302. These two markers sit relatively close to each other. From Binh Lieu Town, I rode my motorbike toward Hoanh Mo along National Highway 18C. Upon reaching Ngan Chuong Village, I turned left toward Marker 61.
The distance from the village to the marker is only around 8km, taking about an hour to navigate. The path winds over hills rising more than 700m above sea level, surrounded by astonishingly pristine scenery. From Landmark 1300, I could look across toward Landmark 1302. These boundary stones stand like silent sentinels guarding the border day and night. Nevertheless, my thoughts remained set on Landmark 1327 for the next leg of my journey.

3.3 The Dinosaur's Spine Challenge and Landmark 1305
While Landmark 1327 offers peace and serenity, Landmark 1305 is a true test of physical endurance. This landmark sits perched on the highest mountain peak in Binh Lieu District. To get there, I followed the turnoff toward Marker 68 from Ngan Chuong Village. After riding along the road toward Hoanh Mo for about 6km, I spotted the signpost pointing up toward the landmark.
Trekkers call this ridge the "dinosaur's spine"—a tiny trail teetering precariously along ridge crests with sheer drop-offs on both sides. In this season, cogon grass and silvergrass blanket the entire path. It took me more than two hours to complete the trek. With the wind howling past my ears and my legs aching, the desire to touch Landmark 1305 propelled me forward. Standing at Peak 1305 and gazing toward Landmark 1327, the vast borderlands unfolded spectacularly before my eyes.

4 Transportation and Accommodation Guide in the Borderlands
4.1 Useful Tips for Backpackers
From Hanoi, I took a direct coach to Binh Lieu departing from Luong Yen Bus Station. Upon reaching the town, I rented a motorbike, which is the best vehicle for conquering the border patrol roads and reaching Landmark 1327.
For accommodation, I opted for a homestay in Song Mooc Village to immerse myself in local culture. Room rates here are very budget-friendly, under 100k VND per person per night. If you prefer more modern comforts, guesthouses in the town center run around 300k VND.
When heading toward Landmark 1327, I made sure to prepare my maps thoroughly. Border roads are relatively deserted, so travelling with companions is advisable to support each other when necessary. Don't hesitate to ask locals or border guard soldiers for directions, as they are the most dependable guides in this region.

4.2 Must-Try Specialties in Binh Lieu
After a long day of conquering Landmark 1327, my stomach was rumbling. Binh Lieu offers simple dishes with unforgettable flavours.
I particularly loved the five-colour sticky rice and cooc mo cakes. Gat gu nodding cakes and ngai wormwood cakes are also fantastic choices. If you are travelling with a group, definitely try grilled stream fish or stir-fried wild bamboo shoots—dishes brimming with rich highland mountain flavours. Binh Lieu arrowroot glass noodles are also a wonderful specialty to take home as gifts. After a hearty meal, all the exhaustion from the journey to Landmark 1327 simply melted away.

5 Other Attractions Beyond the Border Landmarks
If you still have time after checking in at Landmark 1327, visit Khe Van Waterfall or Khe Tien Waterfall. These cascades tumble in frothy white torrents amidst deep, pristine forests.
You can also try cloud hunting on Mount Cao Ly or conquer the peak of Cao Xiem. The curving terraced rice fields are also idyllic settings for capturing stunning photographs. Binh Lieu never lacks places to discover; the only thing you might run short of is time. Combining Landmark 1327 with these waterfalls will make your trip truly complete.

6 Essential Notes for Adventure Travelers
Conquering the boundary markers, especially Landmark 1327, demands careful preparation. Pack light and carry only essentials. A light jacket is a must, as temperatures at higher elevations are noticeably cooler than down in town.
Wear sturdy footwear with reliable traction, as the trekking paths up to the markers can become extremely slippery. Do not forget to bring ample drinking water, since convenience stores are virtually impossible to find along the border patrol route heading toward Landmark 1327. A steadfast mindset is also key to conquering the route with ease. Sharp hairpin turns are certainly not for the faint-hearted. Yet once you stand before Landmark 1327, every ounce of effort will feel completely worthwhile.
The expedition to conquer the Binh Lieu borderlands and Landmark 1327 is a true test of perseverance. To ensure your adventure goes smoothly, proper luggage preparation is paramount. You need reliable, durable gear to withstand bumpy tracks and highland mountain mist.
