3 Archaeological value of Me Cung Cave
The entrance of Me Cung Cave faces east, featuring a very flat 40m2 clearing that archaeologists consider an ideal rock shelter for human habitation. The area is relatively dry and airy, with a secluded system of small caverns situated behind it. Above the rock shelter, there are 4 blocks of snail shell sediments, including stream snails and land snails, with a thickness of 60-150cm.
In addition to snail shells, Me Cung Cave contains shell layers of mussels, clams, scallops, and freshwater bivalves, along with an assemblage of fossilized or semi-fossilized animal bones. All of these were discovered in a deep, sheltered niche of Me Cung Cave.
