Inauguration of the 13,000-Billion-VND Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway, the Most Scenic in Vietnam
Commenced on April 3, 2019, the Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway is nearly 80 km long with 4 lanes and a road surface width of 25.25 m. Following its inauguration, the expressway shortens travel time from Van Don to Mong Cai to just 50 minutes instead of 2 hours, interconnecting with the Bach Dang – Ha Long and Ha Long – Van Don expressways to form a 176 km corridor, making Quang Ninh the province with the largest expressway mileage in the country.

This corridor connects to the Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway, reducing travel time from Hanoi City to Mong Cai City to just 3 hours, down from 5.5 hours previously. The completion of the Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway enables seamless traffic along the entire route connecting the three most vital border gates in Northern Vietnam—Lao Cai, Huu Nghi (Lang Son), and Mong Cai (Quang Ninh)—with a total length of over 571.5 km.

This is currently the country's longest inter-regional route of the Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway, passing through Hanoi, generating key momentum for the region, acting as a transit hub between East Asia, Southeast Asia, and China, and fostering inter-regional cooperation across the expanded Northeast and Red River Delta regions.
