Starting September 1, motorists can travel on the Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway at a maximum speed of 100 km/h, with tolls waived until the end of September.
Inauguration of the 13,000-Billion-VND Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway, the Most Beautiful in Vietnam
Commenced on April 3, 2019, the Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway is nearly 80 km long with 4 lanes and a road surface width of 25.25 m. Following its inauguration, the expressway will shorten travel time from Van Don to Mong Cai down to 50 minutes instead of 2 hours, seamlessly connecting with the Bach Dang – Ha Long and Ha Long – Van Don expressways into a 176 km corridor, making Quang Ninh the province with the largest expressway mileage in the country.
This corridor connects to the Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway, reducing travel time from Hanoi City to Mong Cai City to just 3 hours instead of 5.5 hours as previously. The completion of the Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway has opened up the entire route connecting northern Vietnam's three most crucial border crossings: Lao Cai, Huu Nghi (Lang Son), and Mong Cai (Quang Ninh), with a total length of over 571.5 km.
This is currently the longest inter-regional route in the country—the Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway—which, via Hanoi, creates significant regional momentum, serves as a transit gateway connecting East Asia, Southeast Asia, and China, and promotes inter-regional cooperation between the expanded Northeast and the Red River Delta region.
