1 Where is Ba Deo Peak?

42.1 Traditional Vietnamese pagoda architecture at the Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu spiritual complex

Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu occupies a prime location atop Ba Deo Peak, surrounded by lush greenery, with the gentle waves of the bay in the distance. Thanks to its exceptional feng shui, the spiritual architectural complex here was named Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu by Most Venerable Thich Tri Tinh, Deputy Supreme Patriarch of the Council of Proof of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha. The name means a sacred pagoda built amid cool green pine trees, and it is also considered a treasured guardian of the earth's vital energy for the coastal city of Ha Long. From here, visitors can take in the full beauty of the bay and the vast, peaceful cityscape.

Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu covers a total area of 4.000m2 and comprises several structures: the Tam Quan gate, Bell Tower, Khánh Bell Pavilion, Tam Bao, Founder's House, Mother Goddess Shrine, the two side corridors (Ta Vu and Huu Vu), and the Five Directions Treasure Stupa. All were built in the traditional architectural style of ancient Vietnamese pagodas dating from around the 17th and 18th centuries.

Here, visitors can admire the traditional woodcarving art passed down through generations. Every finely crafted, meticulous detail contributes to the beauty and cultural value of this complex. The wooden framework, designed in the "bell-shaped roof with layered beams" style, features motifs of lotus flowers and clouds. The artisans' creativity and skill have brought these precious structures to life.

The lotus has long been regarded as a symbol of the Buddha's purity and grace. Here, lotus motifs are carved into wooden doors, column bases, and the supporting posts beneath the beams. The Five Directions Treasure Stupa is considered the centerpiece of the Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu complex. Located at its center, it is assembled from solid blocks of granite and designed according to the five-direction Buddha model. The five stupas represent the five directions—East, West, South, North, and Center; the five families—the Jewel, Lotus, Vajra, Karma, and Buddha families; and the five colors—blue, red, yellow, white, and black.

The central stupa has 9 levels and stands 25,2 meters tall. Inside are a Buddha shrine and a 4-meter-tall sutra pillar, modeled on an original Buddhist sutra pillar dating back 1.000 years. Visitors to Ba Vang Mountain can stop at the Five Directions Treasure Stupa to offer incense and pray for peace, health, good fortune, and success. The four surrounding stupas each have 5 levels and stand 12,1 meters tall.

One of the most remarkable features of the Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu complex is its 106 exquisitely crafted statues. Of these, 66 bronze statues are modeled on statues at ancient pagodas in northern Vietnam, including Ba Da, Vua, Mia, and Tay Phuong pagodas in Hanoi.

Sun World Halong Complex built the cable car to take visitors from the Bãi Cháy seaside entertainment area to the attractions atop Ba Deo Peak. A particularly proud achievement is that, on its opening day, the cable car set 2 Guinness World Records:

World's largest cable car cabin capacity: 230 people 

World's tallest cable car tower: 188,88 meters

The enormous cabin is designed like a double-decker bus and hangs high above the ground. The cable car route is 2.222 km long and is supported by 2 large towers. To date, it is the only cable car system in the world with just 2 cabins. Each ride takes 5 minutes, and the system can carry around 2.000 passengers per hour.

2.3 Sun Wheel – one of Vietnam's 2 largest Ferris wheels

When visiting Ba Deo Peak, visitors can also ride the Sun Wheel, designed and built by Sanoyas Hishino Meisho, one of Japan's leading manufacturing companies. Standing 115 meters tall—equivalent to a 25-story building—it has 64 cabins, each with a maximum capacity of 6 people. Each ride lasts 15 minutes and is sure to offer visitors an unforgettable experience that is both thrilling and a little frightening.

After dark, the Sun Wheel is illuminated by 13.000 LED lights, creating a dazzling, dreamlike scene. From the highest point on the wheel, you can take in all of Ha Long's breathtaking beauty.

2.4 Samurai coaster – a high-speed adventure not to be missed
