Chong Rock Mountain, located in Bang Ca Commune, Hoanh Bo District, has a one-of-a-kind appearance, with dozens of rock slabs stacked on top of one another precariously at an elevation of hundreds of meters. Some contact points between two rock slabs measure only around one square meter.

Chong Rock Mountain is associated with legends and place names such as Khe Mung, Khe Lieu and Phuong Hoang Mountain… and is also a sacred mountain of the Dao Thanh Y people. In ancient times, a heavenly general led his troops through this area. After traveling a very long distance without finding drinking water, he continued on until reaching what is now Chong Rock Mountain, where he came across a crystal-clear stream.

Delighted, he ordered his troops to stop. However, because the army was large while the stream was narrow and long, he used his hands to widen it so the soldiers would have enough water to drink. Absorbed in his work, he allowed the rising stream water to soak the hem of his garment. He took off his armor and looked for a place to dry it; then he used a pole laid across the summits of Dai Rock and Chong Rock mountains.

But because the summit of Chong Rock was lower than the summit of Dai Rock, he gathered rocks and placed them on the mountaintop to level the two sides, then laid the pole across them to dry his clothes. That stream came to be called Khe Mung, while the mountain where he placed the pole to dry his clothes was called Chong Rock Mountain.

To admire the panoramic view of Chong Rock Mountain, visitors can travel to Bang Ca Commune, take a boat across the lake, stop at Khe Mung, and then walk to the mountain summit. Those who enjoy adventure and conquering heights can cross the Su Tu rock range to reach Chong Mountain.

Clouds often appear halfway up the mountain here, embracing the entire pine forest surrounding Yen Lap Lake. Located at an elevation of over 400m above sea level, the unique beauty of Chong Rock Mountain’s summit has made it an attractive destination.

To explore Chong Rock Mountain, visitors should bring adequate life buoys and life jackets, as well as food and drinking water. In particular, they should have a local guide and absolutely avoid climbing to the tops of the rocky outcrops, as this is extremely dangerous for any visitor.
