How is Hồng Gai changing?
In July 2026, the “Hồng Gai – Cultural Experience Journey” was officially introduced, connecting the area at the foot of Bài Thơ Mountain with Đức Ông Trần Quốc Nghiễn Temple, Long Tiên Pagoda, and cultural and religious activities. At the same time, the “Sounds of Hồng Gai” program is turning the Bến Đoan waterfront road into a community music space on weekend evenings, where residents and visitors can enjoy outdoor performances together. It is a very different kind of experience from a ticketed entertainment venue.
A slow-evening itinerary
17:30 – watch the city transition into night
Walk along the bayfront area. Hạ Long is not always at its most beautiful when there are fireworks.
The moment boats return, urban lights come on, and residents begin their evening walks can be much more interesting.
18:30 – dinner
Instead of looking for a restaurant with a “tourist menu,” try a place serving:

Make sure it has a clear menu. If ordering seafood, still follow this rule: Ask the price → weigh it → ask about the preparation fee → then order.
20:00 – music or a walk
If your visit coincides with a community program, you can stop by “Sounds of Hồng Gai.” Official information from August 2026 states that the program is held in the Bến Đoan area on Saturday evenings and aims to become a cultural meeting point for residents, artists, and visitors.
But be sure to check the actual schedule before you go.
There are not performances every evening.
Another noteworthy product: the three-sail boat
Since 2026, Hồng Gai has also introduced sailing experiences on three-sail boats, a traditional type of vessel associated with the lives of Quảng Ninh’s coastal residents. This is a commercial product with its own schedule and price; it is not a freely available activity.
Hồng Gai or Bãi Cháy?
There is no need to choose which one is “better.”
Bãi Cháy: entertainment and a tourism-oriented pace.
Hồng Gai: local urban life, culture, and bayfront spaces.
A three-day trip should include both.
